September 15th 2016 | Starts 6.00PM | Duration – 2.5 Hours

Cost – $49 per person (includes wine and canapés)

Hall & Wilcox Lawyers – Level 11, Rialto South Tower, 525 Collins Street, Melbourne

We are excited to invite you to the 2016 Australia v Europe Wine Tasting event.

European Business is proud to announce that Mac Forbes, the head winemaker of Mac Forbes Wines, will guide attendees in comparing an exciting range of Mac Forbes wines to their European counterparts.

In 2004 Mac Forbes commenced a project in the Yarra Valley with the aim to better understand the land and harness its strengths to produce world class wine.

Mac’s journey started many years before when he first donned overalls in the South West of France at the tender age of eighteen. That summer was the catalyst for a now 20 year long career which has seen Mac work with some of the most respected names in the business, both in Australia and overseas.

Mac’s early experiences covered the gamut of winemaking, teaching and marketing. From educating European distributors on Australian wines to consulting to Austrian winemakers, Mac developed a strong understanding of the international wine market and old fashioned winemaking.

Come along to compare a variety of Mac Forbes wines to a selection of European wines as we graze on complimentary canapés.

Please note, numbers are strictly limited to 50 people for this event. If you wish to attend, please register here. Please advise of any dietary requirements

July 14th 2016 | Starts 12.30PM | Duration – 1.5 Hours

RMIT University, City Campus, Building 13, Level 3, 397-405 Russell Street, Melbourne

Brexit: the decision by the United Kingdom to leave the European Union which has shocked people not only in the United Kingdom and Europe, but throughout the world.

Already the decision in the British referendum has added instability in global markets, and has generated profound uncertainty about the future relations amongst Britain, Europe and Australia. Questions have been raised as to how worried Australians should be about the consequences; whether or not the decision will affect Australia’s economic and social relations with the UK and Europe; and the kinds of opportunities that may arise as a consequence of the decision being implemented.

The seminar, hosted by RMIT’s European Union Centre and the Contemporary European Studies Association of Australia (CESAA), will explore these questions and others with a panel lead by CESSA’s President, Associate Professor Bruno Masciltelli. Other panellists include Oliver Jankowsky, President of European Business, Professor Joseph Siracusa, School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, RMIT and Ian Howie, formerly United Nations, and now Adjunct, School of Global, Urban and Social Studies, RMIT.

A light lunch will be provided; for catering purposes, if you wish to attend, please register here.

Hall & Wilcox Lawyers Level 11, Rialto South Tower, 525 Collins Street Melbourne

On Thursday 4th February 2016 European Business had the pleasure once more of hosting an intimate, invitation only event with His Excellency The Honourable Alexander Downer, AC.

In March 2014 Mr. Downer was appointed Australian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. Prior to this appointment he was the United Nations Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Cyprus as well as enjoying a long and fruitful career in Australian politics where he was Australia’s longest serving Minister for Foreign Affairs between 1996 and 2007.

He discussed the impact of the Ukraine conflict, the threatened exit of Greece from the Euro and the November terrorist attacks that shook the French capital, Paris. The ongoing refugee crisis in the region and in particular the impact and future ramifications not only for the United Kingdom but also for the Schengen system were discussed in depth.
